The Dota 2 championship at the Esports World Cup 2025 was the penultimate and one of the crowning points of the professional season. Featuring one of the biggest prize pools in recent tournaments, all the qualified teams fought tooth and nail for the trophy in Riyadh.
The tournament was played on a sub-patch of update 7.39, and fans like us got to experience plenty of jaw-dropping moments throughout the championship. The Dota 2 tournament is one of the highest prize pool events at EWC, with a $3 million prize pool up for grabs. Securing a good position in this tournament will also help the respective club’s overall ranking at EWC 2025.

Dota 2 Esports World Cup 2025 teams

The Dota 2 tournament at EWC 2025 will feature a total of 16 teams, eight of which qualified through the EPT leaderboard and the other seven through their respective regional qualifiers. One spot is reserved for the defending champions, Gaimin Gladiators, who received a direct invitation after winning last year’s championship.

Dota 2 EWC 2025 schedule and format
The EWC 2025 Dota 2 championship is divided into three stages:
- Group Stage
- Elimination Phase
- Playoffs
The first stage featured four groups of four teams, competing in a round-robin format, with each team playing a best-of-two series against the others. The top teams from each group after this stage advanced directly to the Playoffs, while the remaining 12 teams proceeded to the Elimination Phase.
The Elimination Phase featured a gauntlet bracket, where the third and fourth-placed teams from the groups faced off against each other, with the winner advancing to face the second-placed teams. The four winning teams moved forward to the Playoffs from this round. This round featured a regular knockout bracket, which began with eight teams squaring off against each other in the quarter-finals.
