Topson, the two-time TI winner and one of Dota 2’s most beloved pros, appears set for a return to competitive play after months away from the scene. On July 17, the Finnish midlaner posted a cryptic teaser video on X (formerly Twitter), with the message “The King has arrived,” stirring excitement across the community.

The cryptic video teaser shows Topson playing his favorite Monkey King and repeatedly casting the Boundless Strike ability. Considering that it’s one of Topson’s signature heroes ever since his TI8 days, it truly feels like one of the best mid lane players of all time is about to make a comeback.

The video ends with a date, July 21, 2025, suggesting that a full announcement could be made on that day. While neither the professional teams nor Topson has officially confirmed what the future has in store, organizations like Team Liquid and Tundra Esports commented on the post to convey their excitement.

Topson teases long-awaited Dota 2 comeback

It has been almost a year since we last saw Topson competing in the pro Dota 2 scene. His last stint came with Tundra Esports when he led the roster to a third-place finish at The International 2024. However, he has been on a break ever since, causing the community to wait eagerly for his return.

Thanks to this, his teaser on X has gotten everyone excited to see one of the best meta-breaking mid lane players making a return, and that too, right before The International 2025. Be it his pocket-picks like Pugna and Arc Warden or classic signatures like Monkey King and Invoker, Topson certainly is one of the scariest players to draft against.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see which team he joins. Will it be a superteam featuring star players in every position, or will it be an even longer-awaited reunion with Ceb and N0tail at OG? We will have to wait for the answer until the full announcement happens on Monday, July 21.

But one thing is for certain: we won’t be seeing Topson as a participant in this year’s TI, as all the rosters have been confirmed and locked for the upcoming championship. Whatever his announcement might be about, it seems like it will be for the 2025-2026 season, and not the ongoing one.
